Goodbye August, September, October (almost)

26 10 2011

I suck. You wouldn’t believe how often I think about posting here but can’t find the time to do it. The rhythm of my job is very interesting. More interesting than I thought it would be. It’s very much a series of stops and starts, mostly high pressure with more to do than is really possible, yet occasionally the clouds lift and I find myself catching my breath. When those times do arrive, I mostly do just that and sit there, breathing and appreciating the short lapse, never knowing when the meat grinder is going to snap back into action. Such went September and such is it now, albeit slightly more predictable.

Long term intentions remain to continue with this writing. I’m not comfortable giving up my personal writing entirely, so I will return soon. I’m just currently a teensy bit surprised all the time when things do feel manageable, so I’m being cautious.

Welcome to Crashwords.Com

8 02 2011

So I broke down yesterday and bought myself a nice domain: Crashwords.com. This has also meant a re-titling of the site, and in many ways brings it closer to my original intent to focus on writing. Any similarity to Smashwords.com, the ebook self-publishing site, is purely coincidental.

Still, I liked the original title, Pew Pew Crash Crash, because my son cracks me up. He’s wild, he’s a force to be reckoned with, and he’s been very into superheroes and cars since he began speaking and everything was about pew pew, crash crash. In fact, he still comes up to me about daily asking if we can “crash on the bed,” which essentially means to wrestle and let me throw him about like a rag doll. He’s resilient, even if he’s completely mis-coded the word crash. Side note: my daughter mis-coded the word “soft” as a verb meaning “to pat” when she was about the same age. Funny how they’re different.

At any rate, I also reworked the “Who I am, Wer bin ich” page yesterday and I still need to refine it, but I thought it was good enough to put up there for now.

Anyway, let me know what you think!

A quick note on being “Freshly Pressed”

25 09 2010

Being “freshly pressed” for my post on Boys Reading from yesterday came as a real surprise and I cannot tell you how much fun it has been having so many visitors and comments on the site. As I’m currently away from home (we’re visiting my parents for the weekend), I don’t have time to write a very long post, but I did want to thank every single person who has come by, read, commented and otherwise visited my little corner of the internet. Let me tell you, it’s been a very exciting, very humbling (I had an embarrassing grammar error in there that I edited out as quickly as possible!), and very interesting experience to have so many people read something I’ve written.

I originally intended to respond to every comment on the post, but I’m afraid the power of the internet has me outdone. Let me just say then that I am so grateful for every one of your comments and I read every one of them. I’m so happy to hear about your perspectives and experiences, so do please keep them coming.

Mostly, though, I just want to say a big thanks to the WordPress community for shining its light on me for a day. This really is a great community.
